Established in 1982, the Film Festival Awards honor the best filmmakers in ophthalmology. Each year, members are invited to submit film entries, and a team of nine panelists judge the submitted films on applicability/education value, originality, scientific content/validity, clarity, cinematic quality and artistic effects.
Awards are given in 10 categories:
Instruments & Devices
New Producer/Young Physician
A winner and runner-up are chosen in each category, two submissions are recognized as Best of the Best, and one Grand Prize winner is selected.
The awards are presented at a ceremony during the ASCRS•ASOA Annual Meeting. In addition to the awards ceremony, a final screening of the winning films is available to all meeting attendees. The films will also be made available for viewing on the ASCRS website.
