Stephen A. Obstbaum, M.D. is a Professor of Ophthalmology Hofstra- North Shore/LIJ School of Medicine and in clinical practice, with areas of interest in cataract and glaucoma, at the Manhattan Eye, Ear& Throat Hospital in New York City. He recently retired as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology of Lenox Hill Hospital/MEETH after 25 years in that position. He is also former Professor of Ophthalmology at the NYU Langone School of Medicine. Dr. Obstbaum has served as President several ophthalmic organizations including: the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery; the American Academy of Ophthalmology; the International Intraocular Implant Club as well as the Manhattan Ophthalmological Society, the New York Glaucoma Society and the Ophthalmic Laser Surgical Society. He was Secretary (English Language) of the Pan- American Association of Ophthalmology. From 1981- 2001 he was the Editor of the American Intra-Ocular Implant Journal, which became the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery in 1986. Dr. Obstbaum was Chief Medical Editor of Eye World from 2002-2010. He served on the Foundation Boards of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology and remains a member of the Foundation of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
He has received numerous honors and awards and is listed in Best Doctors in America, Super Doctors, Top Doctor- New York Metro and Best Doctors in New York Magazine .
