ASCRS•ASOA Releases New Overview Guide on the 2018 Quality Payment Program Year 2 Proposed Rule

ASCRS•ASOA is providing members with an overview guide to help ophthalmic practices understand the potential impact of the 2018 Quality Payment Program (QPP) Year 2 proposed rule, which implements policy changes to the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs). As we have reported, CMS listened to ASCRS and medical community recommendations to continue transition flexibility in the second year of the program—2018 performance to impact 2020 payments. CMS proposes that MIPS participants will still be able to avoid the 2020 5% penalty by submitting minimal data, however, the requirements will increase marginally from this year. In addition, CMS proposes to provide additional regulatory relief for small practices of 15 or fewer providers. Please keep in mind that the 2018 policies are still only proposed and may change when the final rule is released sometime this fall. ASCRS•ASOA will release in-depth guides on each of the categories of MIPS at that time.

In the meantime, ASCRS•ASOA members have complete access to the MACRA center webpage, which provides extensive resources to comply with the program in 2017. If you have additional questions, call the MACRA hotline at 703-383-5724.
