CMS Releases Advanced Alternative Payment Model (APM) Participant Look-Up Tool

This week, CMS released an online tool to allow physicians to look up their status as a qualifying participant (QP) in an Advanced APM for 2017. Physicians who are QPs in an Advanced APM in 2017 will receive a 5% bonus in 2019. ASCRS expects most ophthalmologists to participate in MIPS in 2017; however, some will achieve QP status through participation in Medicare Shared Savings Track 2 and 3 ACOs or Next Generation ACOs. Please note that this tool only informs physicians of QP status in Advanced APMs, and not their participation in MIPS APMs, such as Track 1 ACOs.

As a reminder, CMS has already provided a MIPS eligibility look-up tool, which provides physicians with a determination of whether they are considered in a small or rural practice, or if they fall under the low volume threshold.
