This week, CMS Administrator Seema Verma announced that the agency would be making changes to the Advancing Care Information (ACI) category of MIPS, which focuses on the use of EHRs. Administrator Verma, speaking at the annual HiMSS Health IT conference, noted that the ACI category, along with Meaningful Use, which still exists for Medicaid and hospitals, will be streamlined to focus on interoperability and reducing clinician burden. This announcement comes after sustained advocacy by ASCRS and the medical community to simplify scoring in the MIPS program, placing particular focus on the ACI category due to its cumbersome scoring structure. The modifications to the ACI category will be included in upcoming rulemaking. We will keep you updated.
