ASCRS Joins AAO and Other Medical Societies in Letter to CMS Encouraging Full Credit in MIPS for the Promoting Interoperability Category to Physicians Utilizing CEHRT and Participating in a Clinical Data Registry

This week, ASCRS, AAO, and 19 other medical societies whose members use clinical data registries sent a letter to CMS urging it to allow eligible clinicians to receive full participation in the Promoting Interoperability (PI) category of the Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) if they use a certified EHR technology (CEHRT) to participate in a qualified clinical data registry (QCDR). This would allow ophthalmologists who use the IRIS Registry, integrated with their EHR system, to be awarded full credit in the PI category. ASCRS also included this recommendation in our comments on the 2019 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule, which included MIPS. We will keep you updated.
