TASS Registry
TASS Registry Background
In 2006, a large outbreak of TASS necessitated development of a registry to analyze potential sources of this sterile, acute postoperative inflammation. ASCRS formed the TASS Task Force, which developed the necessary questionnaires, and provides assistance to surgeons and surgical staff to analyze these cases and make recommendations for the prevention and treatment of these cases. This also led to formation of the Ophthalmic Instrument Cleaning & Sterilization Task Force, whose members, with collaboration from AAO and OOSS, updated the Guidelines for Cleaning and Sterilization of Intraocular Surgical Instruments in 2018.
If you, or your facility/ASC, have had a recent case or cases of suspected TASS, please complete the electronic Instrument Re-processing and Product questionnaire found under ‘Resources’. You must complete a separate questionnaire for EACH CASE you are reporting. The information you provide by completing the questionnaire will help the TASS researchers in narrowing the search to specific areas to be examined. Once complete, this form will automatically transfer to the team and they will contact you directly. Should investigation require an onsite inspection, arrangements will be made between the contact listed on the questionnaire and the research associate.
