Current treatment options for end stage ocular surface disease include OOKP, which is a tedious two staged procedure or a type 2 KPRO, which is not commercially available in our part of the world. We describe the innovative use of a modified type 1 KPRO in 5 eyes with bone dry ocular surface, wherein the patient’s own pannus or mucous membrane graft is used to prevent corneal desiccation and melt.
