HUNDREDS OF PATIENTS SEE CLEARER DURING NATIONAL SIGHT WEEK
At the conclusion of another successful
National Sight Week, the ASCRS Foundation wishes to extend our gratitude to those who made this celebration possible.
During the 4th National Sight Week (October 20 – 26), the Foundation’s network of amazing volunteer surgeons and ophthalmic staff provided hundreds of sight-restoring
surgeries to
Operation Sight patients. Among those was the program’s milestone 4,000th free surgery! How fitting that it came during National Sight Week’s celebration of volunteerism! Oklahoma City surgeon John Bell, MD, from The Dean McGee Eye Institute made the surgery
possible, and shared a few words in this
video.
This important milestone is the direct result of the generous donors, volunteer surgeons, and many staff members who’ve contributed their time and talent to
the foundation’s Operation Sight program since its founding in 2014.
While National Sight Week is a 7-day celebration of local volunteerism, the Operation Sight program runs year-round. Consider volunteering or learning more.
And if volunteering is not an option at this time, you can still extend your impact as a sight giver with a gift to the ASCRS Foundation. Your gift before the
end of the year is all that’s needed to provide an Operation Sight surgery in 2020 to one of the many patients still on our waiting list. Make your donation here.

CORPORATE SUPPORTER PROFILE – AERIE PHARMACEUTICALS
If you’ve attended the ASCRS ASOA Annual Meeting recently, then you already know that Aerie Pharmaceuticals is a strong supporter of the ASCRS Foundation and
its causes. For the past two years, Aerie has generously provided a donation match at the meeting, and partnering with the foundation on some fun awareness projects like last year’s
Give Sight Graffiti Wall. This week, we spoke with Tad Heitman, Head of Communications at Aerie Pharmaceuticals, to learn more about their mission and why they choose to be such incredible sponsors of the ASCRS Foundation.
Foundation Staff: Aerie has been a generous supporter of the Foundation during the Annual Meeting by matching attendee donations. Why did
Aerie decide to partner with the ASCRS Foundation?
Tad Heitman:
We partnered with the ASCRS Foundation because its mission is so compelling and straightforward – provide sight-restoring surgery to patients who can’t afford or don’t have
access to it. The benefits of your initiatives are immediate and profound – inspiring both ASCRS members and our employees, while creating a shared sense of purpose. Supporting the Foundation allows Aerie to make a clear statement that protecting and restoring
sight is what we are all about too!
