Reminder: CMS Collecting Data in Nine States on Post-Op Care During the Global Period

As a reminder, CMS is currently collecting data on the number of post-operative visits furnished after certain surgeries with a 10- or 90-day global period. Physicians practicing in groups of 10 or more practitioners in the states of Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nevada, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, and Rhode Island are required to report CPT Code 99024 for post-operative visits on certain high-volume procedures.

If you are not in a practice of 10 or more providers in the above states, you do not need to report post-operative visits. Small practices of 9 or fewer located in the data collection states are also able to report post-operative visits, but it is not required.

Additional information on the global code data collection, including a list of ophthalmic procedures, is available on the ASCRS website.
