This week, ASCRS and ASOA released a new guide on the Quality Payment Program (QPP) provisions of the 2020 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule. As a reminder, the QPP includes the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs). This guide provides an overview of key proposals and how they will impact ophthalmology practices for 2020 performance and 2022 payment. The guide includes CMS’ proposals for the MIPS performance threshold, category reporting and scoring, and a section on CMS’ request for information regarding a new “MIPS Value Pathway” (MVP) that CMS is considering implementing in performance year 2021. As always, ASCRS and ASOA will be providing in-depth guides on all categories of MIPS, APMs, and other aspects of the QPP when the final rule is released in November.
Information on the current 2019 MIPS program year is available on the ASCRS ASOA MACRA Center web page. If you need additional information, please contact Allison Madson, manager of regulatory affairs, at email@example.com or 703-591-2220.
