ASCRS Foundation Premiere Partner Spotlight: STAAR Surgical

“STAAR is honored and proud to partner with the ASCRS Foundation in helping patients and ophthalmic physicians achieve the visual freedom they desire and deserve.”

Caren Mason, President & CEO

STAAR Surgical is a 2021 Premiere Partner of the ASCRS Foundation, continuing their long-time commitment to the ASCRS Foundation. Their leadership and support helps to make our mission possible. We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to changing lives. We spoke with STAAR about their work and their generous, long-term commitment to our work.

ASCRS Foundation: What is the mission of STAAR Surgical?

STAAR: STAAR, which has been dedicated solely to ophthalmic surgery for over 30 years, designs, develops, manufactures and markets implantable lenses for the eye with companion delivery systems. These lenses are intended to provide visual freedom for patients, lessening or eliminating the reliance on glasses or contact lenses. All of these lenses are foldable, which permits the surgeon to insert them through a small incision. STAAR’s lens used in refractive surgery is called an Implantable Collamer® Lens or “ICL”, which includes the EVO Visian ICL™ product line. More than 1,000,000 Visian® ICLs have been implanted to date and STAAR markets these lenses in over 75 countries. To learn more about the ICL go to: www.discovericl.com. Headquartered in Lake Forest, CA, the company operates manufacturing and packaging facilities in Aliso Viejo, CA, Monrovia, CA and Nidau, Switzerland. ASCRS Foundation: Can you offer your perspective on how your mission and the ASCRS Foundation’s mission intersect?

STAAR: STAAR Surgical’s mission aligns well with the ASCRS Foundation’s mission of providing physician education and humanitarian eye care to those in need.  We endeavor to create outstanding visual freedom and correction technologies, and to educate physicians on the benefits as well as to certify surgeons through a well-defined and intensive training curriculum.  We are very proud to support humanitarian efforts with surgeons and eye clinics, on a selective basis, when we are requested to donate lenses for those in critical need of vision correction.

ASCRS Foundation: How do you hope your gift will impact the ophthalmology community via our mission to provide physician education and humanitarian eyecare to those in need?

STAAR: We expect that the Foundation’s work, supported by our continuing sponsorship commitment, will have a significant impact on humanitarian eyecare by providing the proven research and robust physician education necessary in improving the visual health and visual freedom of people around the world.

ASCRS Foundation: Is there anything else you would like to share?

STAAR: STAAR Surgical is thankful for the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those patients in visual need and to support the mission of the ASCRS Foundation.

ASCRS Foundation: We are deeply grateful for the tremendous support, passion and leadership of STAAR Surgical. Their partnership over the years has changed countless lives by supporting our humanitarian eyecare and physician education programs.
