Operation Sight Patient Sees Hope with Clearer Vision!

The ASCRS Foundation's  Operation Sight program is fueled by the volunteerism of over 700 registered ophthalmologists, willing to donate their time and facilities to a pre-screened patient in need. Operation Sight patients are unable to afford or access cataract surgery, which will ultimately allow them to live independently and securely.

In 2021, Janie applied to our program in fear of going blind because her current employer did not offer insurance, and she could not otherwise afford it. Within little time, Janie had been screened and added to our growing waitlist, eagerly awaiting a volunteer match within her local area. Once matched with James C. Loden, MD at Loden Vision Center, Janie shared "God Bless Dr. Loden to volunteer his precious time out to people like myself to see again. I'm [so] happy to see, to drive even at night, to read, to get a [new] job now... I can't even begin to tell you... his whole staff made me [feel] like I was worth millions."

Janie is now seeing clearly with a restored sense of hope, confidence, and appreciation for the impact charitable cataract surgery has had on her daily life.

Join your fellow members and register as a volunteer surgeon to change the lives of the patients like Janie in your local community!

The ASCRS Foundation is pleased to continue highlighting some of the accomplished ophthalmic humanitarians nominated for the Foundation's Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award. The Foundation's 2020 Young Eye Surgeon International Service Grantees have interviewed these outstanding leaders. AERIE PHARMACEUTICALS LAUNCHES $35,000 MATCH CHALLENGE!

Since 2018, Aerie Pharmaceuticals has been a committed ASCRS Foundation partner, through a matched donation program. Last year, Aerie Pharmaceuticals proved their match was once again virus proof and our community rose to the challenge. We are pleased to announce Aerie Pharmaceutical’s philanthropic commitment to the ASCRS Foundation is continuing in 2022! Aerie will generously double the impact of donations up to $35,000! Donations can be made during registration for the 2022 ASCRS ASOA Annual Meeting or by clicking here.
