We are pleased to partner with the ASCRS Foundation to forge this collective mission throughout our country and the entire world.”
Paul Badawi, Co-Founder and CEO of Sight Sciences
ASCRS Foundation: What is your mission?
Sight Sciences: Sight Sciences is an eyecare technology company and our mission is to transform ophthalmology and optometry through the development and commercialization of proprietary devices that target the underlying causes of the world’s most prevalent eye diseases.
The OMNI® Surgical System is a safe, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) device indicated to perform canaloplasty followed by trabeculotomy (goniotomy) to reduce intraocular pressure in adult patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), the leading cause of irreversible blindness. The SION™ Surgical Instrument is a bladeless, manually operated device used in ophthalmic surgical procedures to excise trabecular meshwork. The TearCare®System is the only heat and expression device designed to evacuate obstructed meibomian glands in treating MGD while allowing for a natural blink experience. The TearCare SmartHub® provides consistent therapeutic heat to melt meibum obstructions enabling HCP’s to perform manual gland expression in treating obstructive MGD.
ASCRS Foundation: Can you offer your perspective on how your mission and the ASCRS Foundation’s mission intersect?
Sight Sciences: Our patients are at the center of everything we do. We are always focused on the needs of patients and protecting and enhancing humanity’s most precious sense - sight. Our philosophy is closely aligned with The ASCRS Foundation’s commitment to increasing patient education and appropriate access to innovative technology that can make a significant improvement in patients' lives. More specifically, by providing eyecare professionals with new options for efficacy, ease of use, and access when treating complex and enduring eye diseases, patients will have a better chance to retain their sight throughout their lives. Likewise, when we educate patients about the nature of their ocular diseases and the importance of taking part in their health journey, we can further support the providers to make the best decisions for their patients.
ASCRS Foundation: How do you hope your gift will impact ophthalmology via our mission to provide physician education and humanitarian eyecare to those in need?
Sight Sciences: The ASCRS Foundation has shown outstanding leadership in using industry gifts and resources to make the most significant impact. For example, during the Pandemic, The Foundation worked strategically to bring volunteer physicians and sight-saving resources to underserved communities within the USA when our country’s healthcare resources were spread thin and burdened with difficult triage decisions. We appreciate the great minds at the ASCRS Foundation and believe they will continue to apply resources to communities both domestically and worldwide, where the greatest benefit can be realized.
ASCRS Foundation: Anything else you would like to share?
Sight Sciences: We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside world class ophthalmic industry leaders and the ASCRS Foundation which embodies tremendous talent, philanthropy, and a shared passion for continually improving the standard of care for our patients and health care providers in addressing ocular diseases and conditions.
ASCRS Foundation: We are grateful for Sight Sciences' support of the ASCRS Foundation. Their continued commitment to our mission has made an incredible impact.
