Preparing for the Refractive Surgery Triathlon: Considering the Lifelong Refractive Journey

This ASCRS CME Spotlight, which is free to ASCRS members and nonmembers, focuses on the refractive journey of the patient. In this CME activity, faculty reviews past, present, and possible future treatments for each stage of patients’ lifetime refractive journey. Skills needed during preoperative assessment for insightful patient selection are discussed, as well as how to evaluate the impact of presbyopia and compare the current options available. Faculty provide input on how to approach patients with varied ocular conditions.

By completing this activity, you will earn 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Access “Preparing for the Refractive Surgery Triathlon: Considering the Lifelong Refractive Journey” here.

Apply for the 2025 Young Eye Surgeons International Service Grant

The ASCRS Foundation extended the deadline for applications for the 2025 Young Eye Surgeons International Service Grant—now due September 22.

The Young Eye Surgeons International Service Grant was created to inspire young eye surgeons to become involved with global eyecare on a long-term basis. The grant affords the opportunity to participate in healthcare systems, including teaching institutions and community programs, in developing countries.

Working with the ASCRS Foundation and its international partners, recipients will develop a customized international volunteer plan that provides the opportunity for a young eye surgeon to learn first-hand the intricacies behind global eyecare efforts.

Why Support eyePAC

Your investment in eyePAC, the political action committee that supports the interests of ophthalmologists and their patients, allows ASCRS to support surgeon-friendly candidates for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

These friends can help accomplish goals such as:

  • Medicare payment reform including an inflation-adjusted payment update
  • Prior authorization reform
  • Protecting MIGS
  • Protecting the National Eye Institute

100% of your donation goes to help members of Congress who support the interests of anterior segment surgeons.

The more friends we have in Congress, the more we can put pressure on government agencies like CMS and the FDA and hold hearings that focus on the issues you care about.

Small-Group Setting & Hands-On Experience at BRiCS

There are several things that make the ASCRS Business of Refractive Cataract Surgery (BRiCS) Summit unique, but perhaps one of the most valuable aspects of this inaugural meeting, taking place September 27–28 in Irving, Texas, is its small-group setting.

By limiting the class size, the BRiCS Summit environment will be ripe for faculty-attendee interaction and impactful learning. There will be 7 hands-on learning lab sessions where attendees will put what they’ve learned from expert faculty into action, solidifying lessons learned and beginning ongoing mentorship between attendees and faculty.

There are still time left to enroll in this new offering, which includes an intensive, in-person course and the take-home resource library

Catch Up on These Special Member Messages

In honor of the 50th anniversary of ASCRS, member ophthalmologists from the 50 states are sending in their perspectives on the Society, sharing its impact on their career, and talking about its influence on the specialty as a whole.

Stay tuned each week through April 2025 for a new perspective.

This week’s perspectives come from Bennet Walton, MD, of Texas. Watch his video here.
