Description of the challenges encountered in managing white cataracts, a mixed bag of different types of cataract. Various techniques for handling the intumescent cataract, being the most challenging variety, are discussed. The published literature comparing the success of manual versus femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery is reviewed, supporting the view that manaul phacemulsification is still a safe approach.
