Hydrogen (H2) has been reported to scavenge free radicals, particularly the hydroxyl radical (·OH). Phacoemulsification produces ·OH which damages corneal endothelium. We examined the effect of H2 in an irrigation solution in an animal study and a clinical trial. In this video, we will demonstrate the usefulness of H2 as a new method for protecting corneal endothelium in phacoemulsification.
