We present a new and inexpensive method to visualize the lipid layer of tear film using a simple LED panel and slit-lamp. We used a simple LED panel made with white LEDs and a polycarbonate diffuser. To examine the patient’s right eye holds the LED panel in his/her left hand, places it just below the patient’s right eye at a 45° angle to illuminate the patient’s eye from below. We expect that this method will be useful clinically for evaluation of dry-eye syndrome and MGD.
