Course will discuss ways to tackle corneal opacities (local and diffuse; partial vs. total) combined with cataract. Indications for phacoemulsification in partial corneal opacities, preop investigations, surgical planning (incision site, capsulorrhexis, emulsification technique and IOL type), outcomes, intraoperative and postop issues will be highlighted. Use of trypan blue dye, endoilluminators and nylon hooks will be demonstrated. Combined procedures such as phototherapeutic keratectomy, anterior lamellar keratoplasty (automated lamellar therapeutic and deep lamellar),and posterior lamellar keratoplasty (Descemet-stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty and Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty triple), and phacoemulsification will be elucidated. Attendee will gain knowledge on managing coexisting corneal opacity and cataract.
