FAIRFAX, VA – December 16, 2015 – Paul H. Ernest, MD, and Hiroko Bissen-Miyajima, MD, PhD, will receive the Honored Guest Award at the 2016 American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Symposium and American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA) Congress, to be held May 6-10, 2016, in New Orleans, La. They will be given the prestigious award in recognition of their significant contributions to the advancement of the field of ophthalmology.
Recognized for his innovation and dedication, Dr. Ernest has been voted one of the top 100 doctors in the country several times over. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of ASCRS and several other professional associations, including the American Medical Association, American Intraocular Implant Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Michigan State Medical Society, and the International Intraocular Lens Implant Society.
Dr. Hiroko Bissen-Miyajima is Department Chair and Professor of Ophthalmology at Tokyo Dental College Suidobashi Hospital, Tokyo, Japan. She specializes in cataract and refractive surgery. Over her 20 year career, she has built a reputation as a skillful surgeon, well known around the globe as a major investigator for multifocal intraocular lenses and for leading the way for femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery.
Dr. Bissen-Miyajima is a regular reviewer for several prestigious medical journals and holds membership in many professional medical associations including the Japanese Ophthalmological Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, among others. She is president of the Japanese Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, past president and 2013 Medal Awardee of the International Intraocular Implant Club, and she was the Asia Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons 2011 Lim Lecture Awardee.
