National Cancer Institute Director Ned Sharpless Named Acting FDA Commissioner

This week, the director of the National Cancer Institute, Ned Sharpless, MD, was named to be the acting FDA commissioner. The announcement follows a statement released last week by the current FDA Commissioner, Scott Gottlieb, MD, that he will resign within a month. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar told committee members during the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee on Tuesday that there is a search for a permanent replacement.
