This presentation makes the case that an anterior vitrectomy, performed through a peripheral corneal or limbal incision, is just as good, if not better, than a pars plana vitrectomy. It is important to perform an anterior vitrectomy properly to avoid complications such as extending the size of a capsular rent or causing a retinal tear. The pros and cons of the anterior approach and details of proper technique are presented.
